Is It Still Paint?

  • Is It Still Paint?

Technology isn’t something most people think of when it comes to paint, but at Benjamin Moore we’re constantly working to develop products that solve problems and make you rethink what paint can do. Since Benjamin Moore paint goes so far beyond your expectations of paint, it kind of makes you wonder...is it still paint?

GREAT IDEA!

CREATE A MAGNETIC CHALKBOARD – IN ANY COLOUR YOU LIKE, USING BENJAMIN MOORE’S NEW K308 SCHOOLBOARD PAINT!

Chalkboard Paint1. Purchase a sheet of 24-gauge galvanized sheet metal (NOT Aluminum!) from Metal Supermarkets (There’s usually a branch nearby – we purchased ours from their Railside Road location in Don Mills). The material is available in just about any size up to 36”x72”. They will cut it to size for you.

2. Clean off the protective oily surface with a good degreaser – TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) will do perfectly. Rinse off thoroughly and dry.

3. Prime the surface with 1 coat of 46-00 Fresh Start Primer, or STIX primer. Allow to dry at least 4 hours – overnight is preferable.

4. Apply 2 coats of K308 Schoolboard Paint tinted to any Benjamin Moore colour you choose. (NOTE; certain vivid colours such as bright orange, bright yellow, deep reds may require a tinted underbody, and require multiple coats) Allow paint to dry between coats as noted in (3)

5. You may choose to apply the sheetmetal to your wall using a builder’s construction adhesive such as PL200 or Liquid Nails – available from any good hardware store.

You’re done! Use as a chalkboard and use magnetic fasteners to stick up your kids’drawings.

Stand back and admire your handiwork!
